EMV Chip

Named for the three companies that created it – Europay, MasterCard and Visa – EMV is a tiny chip embedded in payment cards that is virtually impossible to counterfeit and offers much stronger security features than most American cards.

Chip cards are not only more secure, they are also simple to use. Chip cards and terminals work together to protect in-store payments. A unique one-time code is generated behind-the-scenes that is needed for the transaction to be approved – a feature that is virtually impossible to replicate in a counterfeit card.

EMV represents a more secure future for card payments, and promises to reduce card fraud and counterfeiting, potentially transforming the landscape for payment processes in the United States.
